Black Castle

Immediately south of Wicklow Harbour, on a high rocky promontory, with great views over Wicklow Town, the harbour and the north of the county, lies the ruins of Black Castle which dates from the arrival of the Normans in 1169.  It was constantly under attack from local chieftains notably those of the O'Byrne and O'Toole clans and in 1301 they succeeded in totally destroying the castle.

Well it may have been destroyed, but we still have the setting on the edge of the sea and the views all around, including top left of the main photo, Wicklow Golf Club.

Thanks for sharing! It looks like a camel sitting on the ground.
